Find a Penny

Spotted this on a walk through Tottington Wood the other morning: A Penny Bun Boletus edulis, unless I'm very much mistaken.
  • Reddish-brown cap
  • White flesh which is unchanging when cut or bruised
  • Whitish pore surface
  • Tubes come away easily from the flesh of the cap
  • Faint net pattern ('reticulum') on the stem
I left it for the slugs to enjoy.

The rain had brought out a few different things, including this rather attractive grey mushroom sprouting from a decaying log.

It had the clean white gills of a Pluteus.

Tempting to call this one Willow Shield Pluteus salicinus
