About

This is a blog about me trying to identify fungi for recording purposes. Sometimes I get things wrong.

Advice and feedback is very much appreciated.

  1. . I prefer to use an online tool so I can zoom in and read it easily, and I have decided to have another go at identifying a couple of beautiful fungi I found in some grass (with many goose droppings) in Edgbaston. So I was excited to see the key but trying to use it just takes me to a book. I'd like to show you the two pics I have, one of a golden and one of a black shroom which I think are of the same species at different stages - 5-7cm across when fully opened

  2. Hi Dinah, Thanks for getting in touch. I am not a fungi ID expert myself - so can I suggest sharing your photos on the British Mycological Society Facebook page, here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/18843741618/ - if it is possible to identify your find from a photograph, then it's likely someone will offer you an ID there. Otherwise the group is generally very helpful with offering tips on key identification features and how to observe them. I'll keep an eye out for your pics there :)
